INFO: Mister Jowe Head is an artist and a musician from the Midlands of England, now living in east London. Moving from his home town of Solihull, he started his Fine Art training in Manchester in 1976. At the same time he was beginning his musical career with various school-friends, a project that came to be known as Swell Maps. This group emerged in the late 1970s, and are now seen as legendary pioneers of what is now referred to as the “Alternative rock” scene; they set up their own record label and mixed punk rock with experimental psychedelic sounds.

Swell Maps released four singles and two albums in a brief but dramatic career that saw them topping the UK independent charts. When they broke up, Jowe joined Television Personalities who he met as label-mates at Rough Trade Records. Ten years with the TVPs saw Jowe touring with them around Europe regularly, and travelling to Japan and the USA.

At the same time, Jowe was constantly evolving his own visual aesthetic and personal imagery. As well as many solo and group exhibitions in the UK, he has helped to run a community art centre in east London and he also teaches in his neighbourhood. As well as painting murals and designing posters, LP and CD covers, Jowe makes collages, sculpture and clocks using recycled junk and he is also an accomplished print-maker.

Jowe continues to make music and has a new band called Angel Racing Food. He is also a solo performer and recording artist. He continues to develop his eccentric artistic vision and exhibits his art-work internationally.

The plot might be described as a coming-of-age story of a middle-aged divorcee. It proceeds from the degrading premise that all any frustrated older woman needs is to get laid, Grandma seduces a younger man, a waiter at her daughter's cocktail party, only to conclude that a meaningful orgasm was indeed long overdo but not what she really needed. The smelliest man alive is good in bed but not someone you'd want to wake up next to, though the smell has a certain appeal. Then her TV breaks, her vibrator breaks, and the resulting void sparks a journey in search of what else might be missing in her life. Throwing caution to the wind she sets sail on a second adolescence, discovering along the way that each new fulfillment is still not quite what she needed, but better than watching TV with a vibrator between her legs. She moves into the city, makes friends and enemies, takes up singing and dancing, sex and love, drugs and God, even tries her hand at suicide and a life of crime. None of it pays, least of all the crime. When will Grandma grow up and act her age?

About the Author KEN SHAKIN is the author of Love Sucks (1997), Real Men Ride Horses (1999), and The Cure for Sodomy (2006). The New York native is a graduate of the Juilliard School, with a degree in piano. He presently lives in Berlin.

(AP) - "The Pentagon is planning to shoot down a broken spy satellite expected to hit the Earth in early March U.S. officials said Thursday that the option preferred by the Bush administration will be to fire a missile from a U.S. Navy cruiser, and shoot down the satellite before it enters Earth's atmosphere.

That day we knew we made it. We were not in Germany anymore. We were on our way to Italy and we had good friends waiting for us. They let us sleep at their houses for a couple of days when we had to cancel two shows in Italy. We were on the road for three weeks already and there were three more weeks to go. The next big, big highlight was playing Amsterdam with "...But Alive" and drinking with our friends from Hamburg again. That was like 7 or 8 days later. We were back in the bus and after the show with "Skin of Tears" in Wangen everyone was sick. Chris was throwing up already when they got on stage to play the first show in Italy that night. The boys did the gig, we had some shady sleeping quarters and everyone was close to following Hannah's example. But in the morning we decided to call in sick. It was early April, the sun was out, we were in Italy, Chris was getting sicker by the minute and people offered us a place to stay for a few nights.

We walked around this italian smalltown for two days and those were two of the most relaxing days of my life, I think. Three or four nights later we were in Schopfheim, Sunny's homebase. Back in Germany. That was the night when the boys finally got to see the first cd-copies of "less Talk, More Rock". We did the release-party at this cheesy chinese restaurant and it took Jord forever to take the cd out of the tray and discover "that photo"....
