Was macht man denn eigentlich genau in Second Life? Gern mal mit anderen Avatars Kitsch und Kunst im Internet betrachten, Musik hören und sich per IM über die Bilder lustig machen. Im Ginsberg ARTS Center gibt es ja jeden Tag eine andere Ausstellung und die oberen 11 Etagen mit 24000 Quadratmetern virtueller Kunst wollen irgenwann auch noch besucht werden. Die Bildern rendern natürlich noch ewig lange... Musikalisch gibt es eine coole Auswahl Barock und Klassik. Beachten sie die spielbaren Flügel im Lounge-Bereich, aber gehen sie ihren Mitavatars bitte nicht mit Katzenmusik auf die Nerven. Wer geschickt ist und sein digitales Klavier zum streamen bringen kann, dabei am Besten noch übers eigene Headset Witze erzählt und den Dean Martin macht, könnte binnen kürzester Zeit bei "Second Life sucht den Superstar" mitmachen..... Kunstkenner sind mit Second Life Art News gut bedient und man hat überhaupt irgendwelche Anlaufpunkte statt sinnlos durch die Gegend zu rennen.

OFFLINE GEWESEN

Der Stromschlag hat den Kiez erwischt. Rendert alles nur noch sehr langsam weil der Amerikaner um diese Zeit die Server beherrscht. Egal! Schnell noch im Netz abgestiegen und billig gekauftes Land mit Werbung besetzt. Abbilder unserer Zeit. "Snowcrash", you go!

Ab sofort bin ich auch in der Botschaft der freien Stadt Minato im Second Life zu erreichen. Wahrscheinlich eher selten, aber wir können hier nicht länger am Themen-Schwerpunkt des neuen Jahres vorbei! Es sind die Möglichkeiten, die hier von Interesse sind. Experiment der Woche, ok? Die Analyse dann zum Schluß. Nächste Woche dann wieder mehr über Hitler! Versprochen!

Ach so, bei "Second Life" für umsonst einloggen, Software runter... Rein da und Minato (237, 12, 117 / SLURL)abchecken. Mein "neues Haus" ist beim Absturz im digitalen Nirvana gelandet, aber so eine kostenlose "Skybox" mit Stühlen ist trotzdem eingerichtet. Hinter dem Flohmarkt für riesige Roboter und Kraftfahrzeuge die Böschung runter. Meine Nachbarn sind eher komisch, glaube ich...

Ein Traum wird wahr! Stefano Sternberg am Tisch der Redaktion von "Wired". Leider ist niemand im Büro...!

Im "Edge Club" geht mal wieder mächtig die Post ab. Stefano Sternberg will sich heute noch neue Tanzschritte kaufen und eventuell zum Friseur gehen.

"I almost got thrown off my island in the first week because one of my visitors dared to go and look at one of the other renter’s builds. These are people who, by and large, reject the notion that Second Life is an art space to be explored. Their intent is purely to replicate what they believe to be a rich person’s living experience. It’s a little like watching the MTV show “Cribs.” Endless views of interchangeable beige mansions near some beach. Supernaturally tidy, ordered interiors, usually featuring a vast flatscreen TV.

The truth, of course, is that the houses on “Cribs” are barely lived in. And people in TV have alleged to me that many of the houses on that show are rented by the supposed owners for the express purpose of display on the show. They’re just as virtual as the bland Second Life coastal homes where people watch avatars of themselves pretend to sit down and enjoy the digital sunset."
