Crauts is online It's good to see that my old buddy Guido is still around with his label Crauts Recordings. He used to play in Lowlanders who provided the soundtrack for "Bullets over Bremen", the famous "lost movie" of Violent Fun. The site should be complete in a little while.

"Funk45.com contains over 2000 audio clips of rare funk and soul 45 rpm singles recorded in the late 60s and early 70s with regular contributions from the world's top funk DJs and collectors. The music is often grittier than well known artists such as James Brown and has been ignored by the music industry for over 30 years." Tons of stuff in streaming Real Player-format to listen to! Book: Up and Down with the Rolling Stones by Tony Sanchez The classic book about the Stones! I finally managed to read it. Tony Sanchez was Keith Richard's dealer for eight years and he's got quite a lot of stories to tell. Interesting view at the sixties and the seventies. Lots of junkie-stuff, juicy details about Mick Jagger and the death of Brian Jones. Great, hard-hitting writing and funny pictures. If you have a slight interest in pop-culture you absolutely don't wanna miss this one! Order it through this site and make me richer than Mick Jagger! The old Beatles vs.Stones-debate is lame by the way. It's like Kiss vs. Ac/Dc in the eighties. Fuck, Kiss were a bunch of guys dressing up with make-up and expensive special-effects. Compare that to Ac/DC! Sure, the Beatles... They were brilliant too. But the Beatles were pop while the Stones were nasty! And the guys from Liverpool were into merchandising and creating a fake image. They did all these stupid movies and they were basically the first boygroup. The Stones were something else. They had a much deeper understanding of spacing out and throwing yourself into the sound. I'm listening to an old collection of their classics right and I'm not even old enough to get sentimental. But it's just so much more radical than what Avril or whatever her name is puts out. The story behind "Street Fighting Man" is kind of nice. Mick Jagger got trapped in one big marsh. When people recognized him, people wanted autographs and forgot their political motives. The security had to get him out there. What a great song. It's playing so much with the expectation of the listener. You keep expecting a different sort of chorus, but it doesn't happen. The congas come in and the whole thing really makes you listen to the lyrics and all that. This is where Ton, Steine, Scherben comes from "The time is right for revolution." That's the spirit. Uh-oh, "Midnight Rambler" coming up.

Can't live without music Wired announces The Year The Music Dies and gives the the music industry only five or ten more years to live. "The labels' new legitimate online music services attracted fewer paying customers than the McDonald's in Times Square. (...) The electronics industry's attitude toward the labels is summed up by an Apple slogan: Rip. Mix. Burn. Which, a music executive once told me, translates into "Fuck you, record labels." Capitalism eats itself. It's going to be interesting how big business is going to solve this problem. If they're interested in solving it. It's obvious that Sony makes more money with selling MP3-phones rather than Michael Jackson-cds and Bertelsmann aka. BMG is just too stupid to realize what's going on after buying Napster. The funniest example of globalism right now is AOL Time Warner. AOL sells high-speed-internet-connections to people who download all kinds of songs and movies produced by Warner. Look at this grand old player which used to be called Warner Brothers and what it came down to. . Now they're almost bankrupt and think about selling their music-labels.

Bohren und der Club of Gore Bohren und der Club of Gore is my favourite band. Some of these guys used to be in the hardcore-band 7"-Boots. I can't get enough of their urban death-jazz and I got all their records. I even have the split with Wald and the first 7" on Burt Reynolds Moustache Records with the handmade moustache attached to it. That's how cool I am, ok? It's like the Twin Peaks-soundtrack with the right sort of attitude (come on, David Lynch is lame!), the best soundtrack for those lonely nights you spend on your own with the computer and a bottle of vino. They play a handful of live-shows: 28.03. Potsdam Waschhaus 29.03. Hannover Glocksee Check out the site of Bohren und der Club of Gore yourself. Here are two songs of the last record for direct download as mp3s. It's just a click to the right: Song 1 Song 2

Punk in China - Fucking Jiang Zhemin! I stumbled across this site called wuhanpunk.yeah.net
which is the hub of punk-activities in China. They have soundfiles and some English translations of texts from "Chaos", the only Chinese Punk-fanzine. Nevergood Another one of these bands who played with Propagandhi this summer. Those two nights they hung out with us, I always thought they were called something else like "Good for Nothing" , "Nevermore" or "Neverwhere", but that was just me. They have a great Split-CD with Monaguillos Sin Fronteras who don't have a homepage! That's punker than punk! Great energetic tunes from their side, very good band. Nevergood have much thicker metal-guitar here and there, but they also subscribe to the Nineties-Fat Wreck school. Did anyone expect NOFX to become one of the most influential bands of that decade? Not really. Nevergood have another CD called "Represion Regresiva" which is a lot of fun and also has some meaningful political lyrics I can't read since they're in English. My friend Ute would like this one and she's an expert concerning spanish Punk! The CD also has a very bad cover with Spider-man and the original X-Men in their old costumes from the Sixties smashing a swastika (am I missing some sort of a secret joke here, guys?)

Slim Shady plays Jimmy ”The Rabbit” Smith, a rapping loser based on the singer himself of course. Kim Basinger plays the queeen of a trailer-park in Detroit. There will be nasty language and sexual references, so, the movie by director Curtis Hanson might be controversial. It sounds pretty good from what people say who have seen it already. The soundtrack hits Stores Oct. 29th. It Includes 3 new songs from Eminem, including "Lose Yourself" and new music by 50 Cent ("Wanksta"), Jay-Z, Nas, Xzibit, D12, Rakim, Gangstar, Obie Trice and More....
