Return of the Ninja Turtles

I always had a weak spot for the turtles before they became a multi-merchandising-enterprise. The movies sucked, but the original self-published comic-book was great. The creators, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, made a shitload of money when they sold the rights to the charakters, but they spent a lot of it on enterprises like Tundra Publishing aka. they invested into the scene they grew out of it.
"The official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Treasury" by Stanley Wiaters (Villard Books, 1991) gives you the full story of Eastman, Laird, the Mirage Studios and the Turtles.

It's about time for the turtles to return and there are quite a few news over at the Home of the Ninja Turtles!

Some people claim that John Woo is already working on bringing those karate-reptiles back on the big screen.
And here are five minutes of footage for a potential CGI-version and if you got a fast connection, here is your Download of 34.8 MB to see it for yourself.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)

Now, this is going to be a classic! If you're not familiar with the comic-book, written by Alan Moore (Watchmen, From Hell,...), let me tell you, it's gonna make a fun-movie by director Stephen Norrington (Blade).
Captain Nemo, Alan Quartermain (played by Sean Connery), an adult Tom Sawyer, Dorian Gray, the Invisible Man and Dr.Jekyll team up to fight some global menace.
The second mini-series just came out and it adds Lawrence of Arabia to the roster. Great mix of fiction, history and occult bogus-stuff! Filming took place on Malta and Prague.
Here is the very first picture of Peta Wilson as Mina Murray. If that's the overall-look, this trimmed-to-look-old-style, I love it, but I just read it's actually only fan-art!

Rexfeatures collects pictures from the movie, but they're sort of shady and not really worth your time if you're not some die-hard nerd like me.

The legendary Moriarty, one of these undercover-informers of AICN had a look at David Hayter’s script which is supposed to turn Alan Moore's masterpiece of a comic-novel into a movie.

AVALON

A japanese movie with polish actors called Avalon will take audiences in a storm when it comes out. Shot by Mamoru Oshii who did Ghost in the Shell in a wild duplex-coloured mix of real footage and animation this is a must-see if there are must-sees.

It's supposed to be the one we all have been waiting for since we found out that Star Wars is not as good as we thought when we were 6 years old!

We still haven't heard anything new about the release, but Corona News has some great pictures online.
Miramax want to put it out and you can find lots of enthusiastic reviews at Aint-It-Cool-News

The Producers

I saw Mel Brooks' first movie "Producers" i s probably one of the best movies making fun of nazis I have seen in a long time. Some producer comes up with the ultimate sheme to put up a musical nobody wants to see and cash off from it. He buys a script for a Hitler-musical and lets some gay pothead called LSD play Adolf. But then Springtime for Hitler becomes a great hit! Deutschland is happy and gay. Hilarious movie if you can catch it on late-night tv or something like that!

It's also a huge hit on broadway by now.

Elling

Fuck, I loved that one! One of the best comedies I ever saw. Two lunatics are released from a mental institution to get a life.
This is nothing like all those well-meaning movies about disabled people and Elling aint no Forrest Gum either. He's the mysterious sauerkraut-poet! how cool is that?! Don't miss it. It's a norwegian movie and it was even nominated for the foreign movie-oscar (whew!).

Eight Women

Yeah, I don't know. The singing sucked after a while. I liked Gosford Park better. I'm a sucker for Who's-Dunnit the Agatha Christie-style, locked room-riddles and all that. Great acting, but somewhat predictable and not really making sense in the end.

SPIDER-MAN - The Movie

Uh-oh, everybody waited for 30 years and it turned out really good. It's a movie about a girl who is in love with a guy who wears a mask. Sam Raimi did a good job and the f/x is where it belongs. Science Fiction is lame by now. Superheroes will be the new wave of effects-spectacles.

STAR WARS EPISODE 2

Is that the best one or the worst one? All these eye-candy-effects, ok, but I thought it was boring after the city-chase. Is there anything to talk about?
