THE RUSSIANS LANDED ON THE MOON IN 1938 ALREADY! "If the press materials provided at its screening are to be believed, Aleksey Fedorchenko’s First on the Moon, which professes to tell the story of a secret, Soviet moon mission in 1938, is the first Russian mockumentary. Through a combination of archival footage (both real and fake), fake surveillance video, and modern-day interviews with “participants” in the venture, the film traces the history of the moon project back to the invention of the rocket, and explores the mystery of its ill-fated ending. Very early in the film, it becomes apparent that it’s unusual within its genre for a reason that goes beyond its origin: First on the Moon is a mockumentary with almost no interest in humor. Instead, when viewed with any knowledge of Soviet history at all, Fedorchenko’s melancholy film becomes a regretful indictment of the Soviet government, and its devastating need to destroy the best and the brightest the country had to offer." FINALLY! THE SIMPSONS MOVIE! "Harry Shearer, who voices Rev. Lovejoy, Ned Flanders and a bunch more Springfield nutjobs, was a guest on the Mancow radio show and spilled a tiny portion of the beans when asked about a Simpsons movie. First off, he confirmed the 2-year contract extension for the television show (which will put them at roughly 1000 seasons) and said that the extension will not delay the movie as the actors are already laying down dialogue." BLACK DEUTSCHLAND
Mit Darius James, Sam Meffire, Vincent Mewanu, Tyron Ricketts, Noah Sow, Michael Basden, Ayana Jackson, Bernie Wilmot u.a. Erstausstrahlung am 24. Januar 2006 auf arte 16.03.2006 | 17:00 | ACUD-Kino Berlin Screening im Rahmen des Filmfestivals globale 06; im Anschluss Diskussion mit Oliver Hardt und Noah Sow

GEORGE LUCAS ABOUT DIGITAL FILMS Quote from time.com: It has often been noted that if Henry Ford were to come back today, he would wonder why no one had come up with a better idea than the internal combustion engine. A similar thought may occur to any visitor to a movie shoot. Dozens, maybe hundreds of technicians adjust the lights, apply the makeup and dress the set, much the way it was done almost 100 years ago. And as in D.W. Griffith's day, the film still runs through a camera, then is processed, reproduced many times and sent to theaters. The addiction to doing things that way baffles Lucas. "Do you still use a typewriter?" he asks a TIME movie critic. "Do you go to a library and consult books for most of your research? Is your story set in type, letter by letter? No. Your business takes advantage of technological advances. Why shouldn't my business?"

Star Wars Holiday Special (1978) The whole damned thing in lousy quality on youtube or the first five minutes only (better quality).

Unearthed Monty Python Footage From 1975 "KERA-TV in Dallas was the first PBS station to broadcast Monty Python's Flying Circus, and it was the Pythons' first stop in the US after the premier of Monty Python and the Holy Grail in Los Angeles in 1975. This interview footage first aired live on KERA that year, and hasn't been seen by the public since. It was discovered on an old reel that had been saved by an engineer, and as you can see, it cuts off after about 14 minutes... the engineer taped over the rest. It's a look at the group being candidly questioned by fans at the peak of their fame and creative powers." The Sound of Young America has more. Via del.icio.us

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) Tim Burtons latest movie was made for children, but it's definetely one of his best. "Corpse Bride" was okay, the remake "Planet of the Apes" was one of the biggest disasters in the history of film and all copies should be destroyed, but with this adaptation of the classic story by Roald Dahl the "good old Burton" returns. Incredible cast! Johnny Depp is great as Willy "Michael Jackson" Wonka and it looks like they had a lot of fun making this. Augustus from Düsseldorf rocks! I would love to know how much LSD they took when they came up with the Candyland, the Oompa Loompas and all the other great ideas. An almost perfect film for all ages.

"Silly studios - no one watches movies on PSP!" "Though a handful of films - almost all comedies - have sold OK in their PSP-specific releases, the great majority of titles haven't really sold at all. (And, to put this in context, the ones that sell best move only about 100,000 units, which is nothing compared to DVD sales.) As a result, studios are adjusting their release policies, which essentially means that they're both pulling titles (including Goodfellas, which was due from Warner this spring) and generally reducing the number and genre of films that they sell. In addition to the fact that the PSP hasn't been the blockbuster hit that Sony hoped, the disc format aimed specifically at the unit faces other difficulties as well, primarily the twin facts that PSP discs can't be played in any other players, and that movie can be illegally loaded into PSP memories, thus making legal releases unnecessary."

Könnte was sein.

Hey, Disney, there were no real racists in Texas in the 1960s "Officials at Texas A&M University-Commerce want Walt Disney Co. and the makers of "Glory Road" to apologize for inaccurately linking their school to some of the film's most racially charged scenes. The movie chronicled the history-making Texas Western Miners, who won the 1966 NCAA title with the first all-black starting lineup in a championship game. (...) Though the Jerry Bruckheimer film opened last month, university officials waited to verify the facts of the game before seeking an apology. The university has asked Disney, Bruckheimer, director James Gartner and the screenplay writers to apologize for the scenes. Officials with Disney and Bruckheimer's film company weren't immediately available for comment." More at yahoo news

"Waterborne" - Traditional theatrical distribution is dead. "Director Ben Rekhi had turned down six figure distribution offers in favor of releasing his 2005 SXSW hit, Waterborne, on Google Video. Under Rekhi's agreement with Google, the movie could be watched via streaming video for free (for its first 10 days of release), or downloaded for less than $5. According to Rekhi, his movie was viewed over 25,000 times in its first two weeks of release, and was downloaded hundreds of times every day. The film's producer, Smriti Mundhra, told The Hollywood Reporter's Anne Thompson that the decision was an unequivocal success: "The exposure we've gotten though the Google Video distribution model vastly exceeds what we would have gained through traditional theatrical distribution." Furthermore, the movie's presence on Google Video and the associated publicity have led to DVD preorders (currently at about 15,000) that greatly exceeded Rekhi's expectations. All in all, Waterborne has become a great advertisement for the concrete advantages of online distribution to the makers of independent films. Waterborne comes out on DVD in two weeks."
