Das wird eine heiße Schlacht! "Pay per view" via Internetz dürfte DAS erfolgreiche Geschäftsmodell für eine Welt mit flächendeckend Breitband werden. Vor allem Pornos wird man bald sicher nicht mehr aus der Videotheke an der Ecke holen, wenn man den schönsten Schweinkram unerkannt aus dem Netz ziehen kann.

"Videodrom" in Kreuzberg, die beste Videothek der Welt, hat sich da schon umgestellt, aber die Video-Klitsche an der Ecke wird noch größere Probleme haben als der Buch- oder Plattenladen von gegenüber sie mit Amazon schon lange hat. Im Gegensatz zum Buch kommt es bei Filmen und Fernsehserien nicht so sehr auf das "Objekt zum ins Regal stellen" an. Video ist vor allem Konsum und den Lieblingsfilm wird man sich womöglich als DVD-Sammlerobjekt in aufwändiger Verpackung an die Wand nageln, aber Videos werden in der Regel ausgeliehen und retourniert. Warum also zur Videotheke hin und zurück laufen, wenn der Film zum gleichen Preis auch über Datenleitung auf den Fernseher kommt?

Die TV-Produzenten sind bereits angekommen. "24" läuft auf MySpace, "Lost" und "Desperate Housewives" kann (zumindest in den USA!) bei ITunes gekauft werden. Wenn man den Schalter für den internationalen Markt umlegt, wird man mit den genannten Serien im Netz womöglich mehr Profit machen als nach dem klassischen Fernseh-Schema mit Werbepause.

Auf dem Weg vom Erzeuger zum Konsumenten werden demnächst eine Reihe von Mittelsmännern überflüssig werden. Die Videothek, die ihr Geschäft hauptsächlich mit Pornos und Super-Blockbustern macht, ist so gut wie tot oder sie wird sich gründlich verändern müssen.
