After Ronald Reagan was elected, the first thing he wanted to see was the "war room" underneath the White House. Since this room was only a movie-set from "Dr.Strangelove and how I learned to love the bomb", the president had to plan his dirty little wars somewhere else or build one on his own.
The war room is probably the most succesful creation production-designer Ken Adam has ever created, but basically he's known for designing the hyper-reality of the James Bond-movies and building the most expensive movie-set ever when he decided to build the villain's headquarters inside a volcano.
The German Filmmuseum in Frankfurt has put together an exihibition of around 300 sketches and a few models by Ken Adam. It's currently shown at the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin until February the 24th 2003. It's not what you might expect since it's almost nothing but sketches, but it's okay to waste 4 € on a sunday-afternoon.
