"Manhunt 2" ist schon vor Erscheinen wieder vom Markt genommen worden. Bedenklich fand man allerorts, dass man einen psychisch kranken Killer ohne irgendwelche Motive spielen sollte. Keine Entschuldigungen wie Vaterland, Rache oder Prinzessin befreien. Keine moralische Legitimation. Da wird die Debatte wieder interessant.

Stephen King gab der L.A. Times derweil ein Interview zum "Hostel 2" und einem potentiellen Trend in Sachen "Folter Pornos". Der Clou an besagtem Sequel ist, dass die Frauen den Spieß umdrehen. Die Szene mit der Kastration, uh-oh, da wurde die halbe Pressevorstellung ohnmächtig. Der Film ist dumm, aber er führt Männern vor, was Frauen im Horror-Genre seit Jahrzehnten zu ertragen haben.

Man sollte dazu das Buch "Men, Women & Chainsaws" von Carol Clover erwähnen, für Feministinnen, Medienstudenten und Filmbesprecher sowieso Pflichtlektüre. Tarantino hat "Kill Bill" komplett auf den Theorien von Clover aufgebaut.

Michael Moore prangert das System amerikanischer Krankenversicherungen an und der erfolgreichste Dokumentarfilmer aller Zeiten muss sich mit "Sicko" nicht wieder jener Form von Polemik bedienen, die in "Fahrenheit 911" unangenehm rechts verrutschte.

Am rechten Rand arbeiten inzwischen reihenweise Leute mit ähnlich vereinfachenden Methoden und die Form wird von den Menschen oftmals immer noch mit dem Inhalt verwechselt. Die zahlreichen 911-Filme jeglicher Couleur mögen als Beispiel dienen...

Michael Moore kann auch eher trockene Themen durchaus unterhaltsam auf die Leinwand bringen, aber wer nicht selbst Ami ist, schweift bei seinem neuen Film trotzdem gedanklich auch mal ab. "Sicko" hat weniger vom Rabaukentum älterer Film- und TV-Produktionen aus dem Hause Moore, die Kontroverse in den USA kocht trotzdem. Man erregt sich aber nicht über die Schweinereien der Pharmaindustrie, nein, das Ende des Filmes soll dem Filmemacher gefälligst zum Verhängnis werden:
Moore war mit einer Reihe von beklagenswerten 9/11-Helfern nach Kuba gefahren, wo die "Helden vom 11. September" endlich gesundheitlich versorgt wurden. Durfte man natürlich nicht und die Bushies sind schwer empört. Unamerikanisch und so....

Fetter Homerun für den Babe Ruth des Dokumentarfilms. Seine Landsleute sollten ihm für diesen Film dankbar sein.
