LOONEY TUNES - THE DUCKTATORS (1942)

Photobucket Model Sheet from Wartime Model Sheets. Click for the big version!

File under "Warner Brothers War Propaganda". Watch it at Google Video

Wikipedia"The cartoon takes place on a farm, beginning with numerous animals being shown. After a brief few moments, two ducks (who are expecting a duckling) go over to their egg after it starts to hatch; once the egg has hatched, a baby duck with a Hitler moustache emerges and yells "Sieg Heil!" while giving the Nazi salute. After time passes the baby duck grows into adulthood, holding aggressive speeches toward other ducks and geese; one goose who was listening agrees with him and gives the nazi salute. The goose, representing Benito Mussolini, then delivers a speech to the only listener: a baby chicken who had been forced to stay and applaudes. (...) The complete version was made available on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 6 on October 21, 2008."

OLYMPIC GAMES - BERLIN 1936 - NAZI PROPAGANDA FILM (COLOR)

Rare footage of Berlin and nazi madness.

Interessante Parallelen zur Gegenwart.....

Aber dann kam Jesse Owens (Video with rare footage)

Jesse Owens in his autobiography (The Jesse Owens Story, 1970): "When I came back to my native country, after all the stories about Hitler, I couldn't ride in the front of the bus. I had to go to the back door. I couldn't live where I wanted. I wasn't invited to shake hands with Hitler, but I wasn't invited to the White House to shake hands with the President, either."

MARINUS - FOTOMONTEUR GEGEN HITLER

THE WEB TIME FORGOT

Photobucket

MONS, Belgium — On a fog-drizzled Monday afternoon, this fading medieval city feels like a forgotten place. Apart from the obligatory Gothic cathedral, there is not much to see here except for a tiny storefront museum called the Mundaneum, tucked down a narrow street in the northeast corner of town. It feels like a fittingly secluded home for the legacy of one of technology’s lost pioneers: Paul Otlet.

In 1934, Otlet sketched out plans for a global network of computers (or “electric telescopes,” as he called them) that would allow people to search and browse through millions of interlinked documents, images, audio and video files. He described how people would use the devices to send messages to one another, share files and even congregate in online social networks. He called the whole thing a “réseau,” which might be translated as “network” — or arguably, “web.” Read the whole story in the New York Times

JASPER MASKELYNE, WAR MAGICIAN

Channel4.com: "Jasper Maskelyne is no longer a household name, but in 1930s' Britain, he was a star magician. When the Second World War broke out, his sleight-of-hand techniques came in useful in the campaign to beat Rommel's German army in north Africa."

Great story I found on metafilter.com. Tom Cruise and Peter Weir worked on a biopic about Maskelyne for a while.

WHEN "NAZIS" INVADED WINNIPEG - FEBRUARY 19, 1942: IF DAY

Forget about "War of the Worlds"! Read this incredible story in "Manitoba History", Number 13 "The idea was to stage a fake Nazi invasion of Manitoba. The “Nazis” were to occupy and administer the province for the rest of the day. The key was realism. One couldn’t ignore these Nazis any more than real ones. (...) It was an incredibly realistic invasion, yet, aside from a soldier who sprained his ankle and a Miss Gorin who cut her thumb in her blacked-out apartment, there were no casualties. (...) Official 'laughing classes' were to be set up as soon as possible to better instruct the population in German humour. "

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE MAN WITH THE IRON MASK

Photobucket Timesonline.Co.UK: "He was a self-styled adventurer who gained fame throughout Edwardian England for pushing a perambulator around the world while wearing an iron mask to win a fortune.

However, exactly 100 years after his epic six-year “expedition”, it appears that, so far from pushing his pram through Persia, Egypt and even China, the visored Harry Bensley may never have left these shores. "

-Great little story!

50 YEARS LATER - THE SPUTNIK SECRETS REVEALED

Interesting AP-Story at "Wired": " MOSCOW (AP) -- When Sputnik took off 50 years ago, the world gazed at the heavens in awe and apprehension, watching what seemed like the unveiling of a sustained Soviet effort to conquer space and score a stunning Cold War triumph.

But 50 years later, it emerges that the momentous launch was far from being part of a well-planned strategy to demonstrate communist superiority over the West. Instead, the first artificial satellite in space was a spur-of-the-moment gamble driven by the dream of one scientist, whose team scrounged a rocket, slapped together a satellite and persuaded a dubious Kremlin to open the space age."
